I'm Riding For

family & the kids

Time to put my butt on the line -- or in the saddle -- again this year. My ride starts August 1

My Story

9 Aug 2023

Wed, August 9. I rode about 4 hours (minus the breaks) from St-Jerome into the Laurentians on the P'tit Train du Nord cycling path past Ste-Adele to a lake (near km 29, see picture). It's a return ride, back to St-Jerome where I parked the car.

It's still tune-up time, meaning my legs and body are still getting used to this. I have a couple of 80 km routes planned for my next rides. Right now, my total is: 191.8 kms (out of 700 goal). I'm getting there. Hope the weather holds.

My total distance two years ago was 1200 kms. I tried to match my goal to the amount donated. Dumb, I know. But it's the least I could do to try to match your generosity. You're all the heroes for digging deep and helping out. Thank you for all you've done to inspire me and others to get on our bicycles.

Next up... that depends on the weather.

p.s.: I had to use Google Maps to chart my ride. Dummy me, I paused the MapMayRide app at my first pit stop at Prevost and forgot to hit "Resume" for most of the ride. Not going to happen again.

--------

It’s August 7, first week of the 2023 Great Cycle Challenge to Fight Kids Cancer by putting my butt onto a bicycle seat and pedalling away sometimes for hours. I’m a 3-time survivor of this damn thing. The hardest part wasn’t the chemo, radiation or operation. It was sitting there watching these little people and their parents going through the same thing. The worry, the fear, the brave faces despite all of that. I’m still recovering but this Challenge has me back in the saddle again for all kinds of reasons, some personal and greedy and others because maybe it’ll help someone else get through it all.

Cheers, and on to the second week. Hope the rain gives us a break. :-D

---------------

It's time to gear up and hit the trails again. Time to oil the machine, get new tires, and work on my legs. Because it's only one way -- but a good way -- to help fight this thing.

Join in. Chip in.
